Lack of social mobility

One of the main issues related to the American Dream today is that people no longer feel like they can change their current socio-economic state. The lack of social mobility has often been the topic of surveys and polls.

For example, The Guardian looked at how Americans feel about social mobility. Citing various studies, the article reveals that “While 90% of the children born in 1940 ended up in higher ranks of the income distribution than their parents, only 40% of those born in 1980 have done so”. The same study mentions that, in 2016, only 38% of Americans believed their children would have a better economic situation than they had.
