To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee published in 1960. The book has won the Pulitzer prize. The story, told by the six-year-old Jean Louise Finch, takes place during 1930's, the years of the Great Depression in the fictional small town of Maycomb, Alabama.

Jean Louise Finch, nicknamed Scout, and Jeremy, nicknamed Jem, live in a small town called Maycomb. Their mother is dead, and therefore they have a black woman, Calpurnia, to take care of them. Their father Atticus Finch also takes care of them, and when he gets the chance, plays and reads for the children.
