Analysis

In the following section, we will provide an in-depth analysis of Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.

First, we will consider the overall structure of the novel. We will look closely at each of its three parts and explore key turning points of the plot. We will also reflect on the book’s ending and the significance of its title in this section.

Secondly, we will take a look the most important characters in the novel. We will provide in-depth analysis of the three main characters - Winston, Julia and O’Brien - but also offer brief notes on secondary characters such as Mr. Charrington and Winston’s wife Katharine.

Thirdly, we will explore the setting of the story, providing a detailed analysis of the dystopian society of Oceania and the important political and social elements in this context. We will also make some general observations about the science-fiction genre and the difference between utopia and dystopia.
